Woop Woop, we made it!

We are on day 3 here in lovely (rainy at the moment) Rio de Janerio, but let me catch you up.
(now that I figured out how to change the page the in English!)

We landed on Saturday and Melanie picked us up at the airport (thank goodness). She took us to our villa to show us around, drop our luggage, and go to lunch/dinner. We went to Porcao, which translates to "big meat" and it was. Oh my. Waiters brought over all different types of meat and carved it onto our plates, and they did this like every 5 minutes! Waiters were also bringing over plates and plates of food like calamari, shrimp, fried bananas, and different types of rolls. YUM. We ate so much and it was all delicious, except the chicken hearts we tried. Those were a bit chewy, but it is a delicacy here so I had to try it! After dinner Melanie and the driver took us on a tour of Rio! They showed us all so much, like the best super markets and the best beaches, very very nice of them! :)

Day 2 was our day of rest. We were a little tuckered out from our plane ride and slept until noon...oops! We got brave and adventured out and started walking down our street We turned the corner and there it was. The Christ Statue!!! It is only a street away from our house!!! After all that excitement we walked around the Market and ate at an American style resturaunt to play it safe. Well, the food was American based and tasted similar, but no one really spoke English. The waiters were very nice and it wasn't much of a problem.

Day 3 we got up bright and early to meet our Superintendent, Josh Rudle. He is so great! He gave us a tour of the school, helped us get connected to internet (woo hoo!), answered all our questions AND took us out to lunch. The school is fantastic. It is an indoor outdoor school and so beautiful. It is also Portuguese and American based. I will either be teaching preschool, first grade, or second grade. Stay tuned and find out which it will be! ;) That afternoon we went to the Copacabana for the first time! AND took our first taxi ride there. It was amazing, the white and black walk way, the beach, the people, AMAZING! We also drank our first coconut water, YUM!

Day 4 is today and we tried going back to the beach. We layed by the water for about 40 minutes before it started to rain.  I only got a few new freckles ;) We are all sitting in our villa, excited for our first day of teaching tomorrow! I can't wait to meet my teacher and my class! :)
